Why the staff to student ratio has no impact on student performance: opinion

We have argued for a number of years now that there is little if any relationship between quality teaching and learning and Staff to Student Ratios (SSR). Attempts to reduce the ratio is little more than a distraction.

I am not sure this claim can be made for all disciplines. Different disciplines require different pedagogies which have implications on staff-student ratios, and space and equipment requirements. For instance creative arts, design etc.
