Poor PISA results indicate a lack of ‘respect’ in Australian classrooms

A UNSW academic has pointed to classroom disruption and disrespect as key causes of Australia’s poor Programme for International Assessment (PISA) results this year.

  1. The main problem is the Australian society at large doesn’t value education. The main priority is money and then sports. Some employers are willing to recruit people with no bachelor’s degree in some professions, thinking the new employees will learn the role in his/her new job and at the same time they can start on the low pay scale. When there is no value for education, the classroom disruptions will be an occurrence in some schools but not in all schools where socio-economic background of parents’ are higher than the average.
