  1. With a funding model that rewards student numbers we have the situation that we have to teach well to have the resources to research well. If the Harvard students are so unhappy they have plenty of outstanding choices nearby. However, I suspect that they have no regrets several years out of their degree. Harvard’s endowment fund would support this hypothesis. Measuring teaching quality is essentially impossible. It can really be only evaluated after many years have passed. Having said that poor teaching is readily identified.
