I am a sessional ELICOS teacher with 30 years’ experience, who struggles to make ends meet each year , working at two centres as much as possible. Overall I earn much less than seventy thousand/pa!! It may be true to government primary and secondary teachers but as for the marginalised ELICOS sector- the Ed Dept has never heard of sessional teachers!! There is one month off over Christmas which needs to be factored in- can’t afford to take a ‘mental health day’ as a ‘sickie!” like many do!!
