Social emphasis missing in TAFE plan
Institutes and colleges were set up to train people and fulfil community service obligations; unfortunately the latter is now disappearing. By Lawrence Angus.

To take this social perspective further (and away from the economic rationalist perspective which motivated such cuts to TAFE funding), consider also the job losses, the closing of valuable courses (such as the Auslan courses at Kangan TAFE) and the likely drop in student services and supports for students with a disability. We are only beginning to see how much of an affect these cuts will have.
