WA Judge

An internationally-recognised lawyer and academic has been appointed a judge in the West Australian Supreme Court. Professor James Edelman will take on the role following the retirement of Justice Peter Blaxell. Edelman will take up the position on July 25. He studied law at the University of WA (UWA) and was awarded a Rhodes scholarship to complete a Doctor of Philosophy in Law degree at the University of Oxford in 2001. He was awarded a Master of Arts (Honorary) degree from the same university in 2005. Edelman has lectured at universities in Australia, Britain, Europe and the United States. In 2008, he was appointed Professor of the Law of Obligations at Oxford, becoming the youngest professor of law in the university’s history, AAP reports.
