Dawkins to head Victoria University

Victoria University has appointed Professor Peter Dawkins as its new vice-chancellor from January 2011, following the retirement of Professor Elizabeth Harman. Dawkins, an economist, was appointed director of the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research at the University of Melbourne in 1996. Most recently he has held high-level roles with the Victorian government, as deputy-secretary of Treasury and later as secretary to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
