Packing a punch

The Australian Institute of Packaging has reached agreement with the Australian Management Academy (AMA), a registered training organisation which specialises in training for the manufacturing, processing, mining and quarrying industries, to administer certificate and diploma qualifications in packaging for the industry. Although the qualifications – which AIP has offered since 1980 – are accredited by Britain’s packaging industry awarding body rather than under the Australian qualifications framework, AMA managing director Peter Stephenson told ***Campus Review** that he hopes to link them to the Australian quality training framework in due course. “When that happens, students will receive two for the price of one: an international qualification and an Australian-recognised qualification,” he said. The AIP says packaging technologists – for whom the diploma course is designed – are in high demand, especially given “the requirements surrounding the ‘green era’ in packaging”.
