Trickle-up theory goes down the drain

The trickle up theory – that an increasing number of women undertaking PhDs and entering academia would ultimately result in more in higher level positions – has not eventuated. And despite progressive and generous maternity leave provisions, universities are witnessing the “ghettoisation” of women at the bottom end of the academic employment pyramid, with the distinction between teaching and research continuing to split along gender lines.
