The goal of developing Australians to be more ‘Asia capable’ is perplexing; at one end of the spectrum, Indonesian studies are axed while on the other, we are encouraged to be more ‘Asian capable’( what is Asia? is this a country, nation or region)…further, we have thousands of students, migrants and Australian born in Asia but are we harnessing these domestic resources to help develop our regional understanding and awareness?
