Skilled migrants not poaching local jobs: ACER

Everyone has probably heard something akin to the following from a taxi/Uber driver: ‘I worked as an engineer in India and now, here in Australia, the only job I can get is as a driver.’

The “Skilled Migrant” category, hardly looks for any specific “Skill” in the applicants. The applicants use their educational background as a tool to apply through “points system tool of skilled migration category”. Most of these applicants earn their engineering degrees from substandard colleges and universities, where the only skill they learn is “Indiscipline”.
This category of immigration needs a serious overhaul, where the applicants with specific training and skills should be interviewed by a panel of experts before they are granted a skilled migrant visa. This will not only reduce the number of applicants significantly, but will also boost the Austrlian economy by bringing in the real skill under this category.
