Unis don’t collaborate effectively, expert says

Universities don’t lack innovation, they just don’t share knowledge with one another effectively, the leader of a US network of universities has said.

  1. I don’t know about research, but there is a lot of room for sharing resources in teaching. But everybody wants to do their undergraduate teaching slightly differently. And they will have good reasons why their offerings to 1st year physics majors (my area) must be different. Some of these are real. My uni teaches a very mathematical/theoretical style of physics, while another uni focuses less on the maths and more on the applications. So you teach the same content differently.

    None the less, it seems incredibly wasteful that we don’t have some degree of common curriculum in 1st year university physics.
