While the ’60s-’70s universities share many characteristics, I’m not convinced that it is useful to consider them together for this purpose. For example, comprehensiveness may be considered differently by Griffith (31,000 eftsl), Deakin (30,500), Macquarie (28,500) and La Trobe (26,000) from Flinders (14,600) and Murdoch (15,700).
Interestingly, some universities seem to be pursuing different and perhaps distinctive strategies. In particular, Murdoch has a very high proportion of international students (41%, all universities 27%), and has increased its offshore student load by a remarkable 137% since 2009 (all universities 12%).
