What will the new Obama regime mean for universities? I think the answer lies in this slogan: “Rednecks for Obama. Even we’ve had enough.” The New York Times reported that this sign was seen emblazoned on a Confederate flag before the historic 2008 election. That vote truly was historic, because a country forged from dispossession and slavery chose a black man (and black men are the most demonised figures in US popular culture) as its president-elect.
