July 5 2021 was the 117th birthday of the great scientist Ernst Mayr (5 July 1904 to 3 February 2005). Ernst Mayr can be described among others as an evolutionary biologist, taxonomist, ornithologist, science educator and historian, and a leading pioneer of the relatively new field of philosophy of biology.
