Moving classes online: why implementation of e-learning protocols is the way to go

I have been involved in development and implementation of e-learning systems and online courses for some years now and while there have been instances of building and delivering courses for the 'virtual campuses’, the lion's share of the work has been carried out with the aim of developing systems, processes and tools for supplementing traditional (face-to-face) delivery of the educational programs.
