Australia’s day after: have universities lost sight of their core mission?

Thank you, thank you, thank you Sandra for this article. I like many who will read this have been to many universities over the years. Recently I have experienced the blurred vision of the universities mission statements in action. These actions are more akin to cost cutting measures such as removal of academic experts and doling out of voluntary packages than the nurturing arms of universities that once held their academic staff and students. The economic political climate is tough but universities can weather the storm if they remember that the way forward is not to lose sight of the purpose and put that purpose to practice for the ‘common good’.
