Is it time to reassess the importance of the ATAR?

The ATAR is so opaque …….
and as a parent I feel the process of upweighting or downweighting some yr 12 subjects is ridiculous (being presumably based on difficulty). One of my sons did Electronics – control systems this year, and it was absurdly hard, partly because the teacher was absent for much of the year.
And he’s going to get scaled down for it — yet apparently not scaled up for another hugely difficult subject, Chemistry !!
