Govt backs down on research funding threat

The federal government has offered to split its higher-education reform bill in a move that would see the proposed 20 per cent cut in funding for the Commonwealth Grants Scheme deferred for future debate while funding of the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) would be extended for 12 months.
