VU joins Sydney in announcing job cuts

Victoria University is the latest institution to confirm job cuts, with administrative positions to be reduced over the next three months, while Macquarie and Sydney universities continue to negotiate with union members. Victoria vice-chancellor Peter Dawkins said in a statement that the cuts would help the university “meet the challenges and opportunities” that would come with the introduction of demand-driven funding, and that the cuts would improve the academic to general staff ratio.
