The highest of honours

Dr Mike Smith, of the Centre for Historical Research, National Museum of Australia, has been awarded the Verco Medal by the Royal Society of South Australia. The medal is the highest honour that the society can bestow on one of its Fellows and is made for outstanding contributions to his or her field of research. For more than 30 years Smith has carried out fieldwork in the Australian desert, attempting to piece together the region’s human and environmental histories. Smith is an adjunct professor in the Fenner School, ANU and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities.
