Differences among the Australian states and territories in school-to-work transition outcomes are dramatic, ranging from well above the OECD average to well below. And the differences found in a recent analysis of OECD and ABS data are considerably greater than can be explained by variations in economic and social structures1.. Victoria and the NT also perform well above the OECD average and NSW somewhat above. The other states and territories are quite close to the OECD average.
