Half of the trouble with the Ben O’Neill’s article ‘Another equity and diversity campaign’ (CR, 31.03.09) is that it is too bitter. He needs to read a bit more of his George Herbert: “Be calm in arguing; for fierceness makes error a fault and truth a discourtesy.” Whatever truth he is trying to share with all of us loses its impact through the ferocity of his utterance.
