New scanner speeds up brain research

Melbourne researchers have taken delivery of an improved brain scanner that will allow them to fast-track the detection and treatment of neurological disorders. The positron emission tomography – computed tomography (PET-CT) scanner has been installed at the Melbourne Brain Centre (MBC) at the University of Melbourne.

“The MBC PET-CT is the first in Australia installed primarily for brain research, boosting capacity enormously in this growing field,” said Christopher Rowe, professorial fellow at the University of Melbourne.
