  1. Hmm the fact taht attending is no longer treated seriously reflects more on student motivation and drive than teaching practice – as a gender neutral advocat it seems like nonsense is being said that implires todays students are different – polite way of saying inattentive and imparied – from the past. I think the comments from VU are ludicrous – flipped learning is just a stupid way of saying tutorials are more important than lectures so lets keep lectures out of the classroom and focus on tutorials becuase thats what they will turn up to… but tutorials have always been a part of university training… the expectation that most students do their self-lecturing under their own steam is whimsical – they are more likely to be working out how to cheat exams and so on as they find they dont understand much… why are university professionals teaching at this level? This ccan clearly be done by senior students and post docs allowing more senior staff to focus on more intellectual activities that make use of their own training.
