Labor slashes university funding
The Gillard government’s planned funding boost for schools will be at the expense of universities, with the announcement that it will strip an additional $2.3 billion from the tertiary sector.

No problem if universities cut back on ‘compliance costs’ from State and Federal governments. Surely this is the obvious area to economise given much compliance material is never used.
On figures given, by the time the cash reaches the ‘sharp end’ (i.e. once the costs of doing business are subtracted) secondary school pupils/students are getting around 50% more than tertiary students do.
Universities will remain an easy target as long as members of the sector continue to insist on dividing themselves along lines of perceived status and illusions of rank. If we fail to respond as a single voice then get ready for another ignoble scramble for education funding scraps.
