Study throws doubt over legality of circumcision

Tasmania’s Law Reform Institute has recommended a legal ban on the circumcision of baby boys in the state. It advises the practice of male circumcision on “incapable minors” be deemed illegal unless it is performed for religious or cultural purposes.

  1. I’m not entirely sure why it should be ‘deemed illegal unless it is performed for religious or cultural purposes’. This notion of a cultural/religious get-out clause for what may otherwise be an illegal act would only provide tinder for those of a rascist tendency. It would most certainly not be accepted for female mutilation of this kind.

  2. Why is it that people think that they have a right sticking their nose into others business? Decisions made by parents are expectantly made in the best interest of their children, in the instance of circumcision, I have seen grown men go through circumcision and think thank god that my folks had the foresight to get me circumcised as a baby, and you know what I do not remember it, but one does as an adult babies don’t remember it anyhow. Researchers seem to always give surveys to participants whom have never experienced any major traumas in life, so how can someone make comment on issues that they know nothing about (especially woman on male circumcision)?
