I suggest that any potential PhD student who needs all information pertaining to supervisors, scholarships etc on one site for ease of reading should not be eligible to embark on a such a degree. Why you might ask? Which I find an interesting question, to say the least. PhD degrees are research orientated and hence if a potential student finds it too difficult to research which university, supervisor, scholarship etc because it is such a challenge and too difficult then they simply do not have the required and relevant skills to complete the degree. Enough students pull out of this degree as it is – some through lack of skills such as the tremendous amount of self-learning and self-directional research necessary for completion. Students should not be hand-held through this time – these skills should have been well and truly learnt during the undergraduate period. Hence a simply exercise in which university or supervisor should ‘I’ choose is the easy part. Tenacity is a wonderful characteristic which seems lacking in our technologically advanced world – one which makes individuals lazy resulting in anti-intellectualism.
