Europe wants our best brains

Europe is investing heavily in research, innovation and design, with the express purpose of attracting the best scientists in the world to its shores, the Universities Australia Higher Education Conference heard in Canberra. Maire Geoghegan-Quinn, Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science at the European Commission, spoke of a region that is spending billions encouraging advanced research in the belief that this will drive growth and increase jobs.
