David Gonski and Denise Bradley need to talk. That might be the best way to sum up comments by university educators when asked for responses to Gonski’s landmark Review of Funding for Schooling. Released last week, the report contains the first exhaustive examination of funding for Australian schools since 1973. And Gonski delivered. Among his 41 recommendations: an additional $5 billion in state and federal funding to schools per year — representing a 15 per cent boost — based on a radical new framework.
