Inequality not good for those at the top

A book by Richard Wilkinson and Kate Pickett, The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better (London: Allen Lane, 2009), has taken readers in the UK and USA by storm. Wilkinson, an economic historian and professor emeritus at the University of Nottingham, and Pickett, a health researcher and senior lecturer at the University of York, make the case that developed societies have very little to gain in the continued sole pursuit of economic growth.
