New director of Nura Gili Indigenous Programs

The first Torres Strait Islander to gain a PhD in Australia has been appointed director of Nura Gili Indigenous Programs at the University of New South Wales. Professor Martin Nakata will also hold the title of professor of Australian Indigenous Education. He is currently the director of Jumbunna Indigenous House of Learning at the University of Technology, Sydney and was previously director of the Aboriginal Research Institute at the University of South Australia. His contribution to higher education has been in the areas of Indigenous education, research and knowledge. Nakata will take up his position in November.
