International role for Berndt

Swinburne University’s Professor Chris Berndt has been nominated vice-president of ASM International, a US-based society that represents 36,000 members in the materials science field worldwide. Berndt will be vice president from October for a year before becoming president in 2011-12. He is the director of the Industrial Research Institute Swinburne. Berndt has undertaken several fellowships in the US before returning to Australia in 2005 as founding professor of surface and interface engineering at JCU. He was appointed the founding professor of surface science and interface engineering at Swinburne in late 2007 and became director of IRIS in March 2008.
