Cory becomes president of AAS

Professor Suzanne Cory, the immediate past director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, is the new president of the Australian Academy of Science. Cory was director of the WEHI from 1996 to 2009 before she retired to lead a research laboratory in the institute’s Molecular Genetics of Cancer division. Cory is the first woman elected president of the academy and the second woman president. Professor Dorothy Hill became the first in 1970 when the serving president, Dr David Martyn, died. Professor Cory has been a member of the academy since 1986.
