Wilcock appointed chair of VCA advisory board

Former senior diplomat, Ian Wilcock, has been appointed chair of the advisory board of the Faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts and Music on behalf of the council of the University of Melbourne. Wilcock retired from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in January 2010 after a 38-year career in Australia’s foreign service. Among the many key roles he held over his career, he was High Commissioner to South Africa and Ambassador to Israel. He had earlier diplomatic postings to Manila, Washington DC, London and Tel Aviv. Among the positions he held in DFAT’s headquarters in Canberra, he was head of the Public Diplomacy, Consular and Passports Division, which incorporated DFAT’s international cultural programs. He was state director for DFAT in Victoria from 2004 to 2008. He has had a long-term interest in the performing and visual arts. He will take up the role from 1 March 2010.
