Stone fairy enchants Canberra, 34 years on

Rededicating a foundation stone in 1974 at the University of Canberra (then Canberra CAE), ex-Prime Minister John Gorton was surprised to find American student and activist Marcia McReynolds hiding under a blanket. With a sweatshirt emblazoned with the words ‘Stone Fairy’, and smoking a fake joint, she danced a jig in front of the bemused ex-PM.
