In the past decade, Australia has been successful in expanding the number of students from low socioeconomic status (SES) enrolling in tertiary education. The 2008 Bradley review into Australian higher education highlighted the critical need to expand tertiary educational opportunities to students from low SES backgrounds. As a result, targets were set and funding created to enhance the participation of low SES students.
