Monash engineering dean

International structural engineering expert Professor Frieder Seible has been appointed as dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Monash University. Seible makes the move to Monash from the University of California. “Professor Seible brings to Monash an impressive record of fundraising, industry engagement and international experience, with a particular focus on China,” said Monash vice-chancellor Ed Byrne. “He is an international expert in the field of structural engineering, and his research interests include the evaluation and protection of critical infrastructure systems; earthquake resistant design of reinforced concrete and concrete masonry structures; the development of new large-scale structural testing techniques and the application of polymer matrix composites in civil structures. His research achievements also include more than 600 publications and technical reports.” Seible will also be appointed as an academic vice-president of the university.
