Business dean at Swinburne

With more than 20 years' experience at Swinburne University of Technology, Professor Michael Gilding will take up his new role as executive dean of the Faculty of Business and Enterprise. Gilding is currently deputy dean (research) in the Faculty of Life and Social Sciences and professor of sociology at Swinburne Institute for Social Research. He has also held the positions of pro-vice chancellor, research quality, and acting deputy vice-chancellor research. Gilding is an economist sociologist who specialises in innovation, family business, and the social dimensions of economic behaviour. His research has attracted more than $1 million in National Competitive Grants, including partnerships with AusBiotech, Pitcher Partners and CSIRO. A key focus for this role is to lead and develop the faculty to further build Swinburne’s reputation in the fields of teaching and research, and to exploit the numerous opportunities for synergy among disciplines within and between faculties. He will take up the position on November 12.
