Curtin University has appointed Professor Adrian North as its head of the school of psychology and speech pathology. North comes from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, where he was deputy head of the school of life sciences, and director of psychology education and research, since 2007. He graduated from the University of Manchester with a BA (Hons) Psychology and completed his PhD in music psychology in 1996 at the University of Leicester. He has published widely and co-authored three books. His research interests focus on the social and applied psychology of music, particularly music and deviant behaviour; music and consumer behaviour; and musical preference in everyday life. North said he is looking forward to developing teaching and research in fields that directly impact on everyday life.
