TAFE CEOs need “moral authority” to face change: Scales

TAFE institutes need to participate constructively in debates about VET reform – rather than acting as “blockers” – and TAFE boards need to give their CEOs the “moral authority” to engage in that public policy debate, according to Swinburne University chancellor and Bradley review panel member Bill Scales. E Association conference earlier this month, that he had no doubt the state’s public providers could cope with the new contestable environment confronting them. But it would require an honest two-way exchange between TAFE governing bodies and their chief executives, with CEOs required to “sit down and develop a very detailed strategic response to this challenge”, he said.
