Coalition policy still sketchy

A Coalition government would not radically alter the current higher education policy agenda, says Senator Brett Mason.

The federal Coalition would wrest regulation of higher education institutions from the states to ensure the national agency TEQSA alone dealt with issues of regulation and quality assurance. It would also advocate for a flexible quality assurance system and "would not burden the sector unduly when it is not needed or justified". However, the Coalition's third item on its wish list for TEQSA - more consultation - was swiftly pre-empted with the appointment of Professor Denise Bradley as interim chair and Ian Hawke as interim CEO just a couple of days after Senator Brett Mason's spoke to senior...
