Baird lifts the bar

Bruce Baird’s proposals to help protect international students look set to get the green light, with both parties indicating support.

High-risk international education and training providers will have to clean up their act or risk getting turfed out of the industry next year, after the major parties signalled support for the key recommendations of the Baird Review of the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act. The Baird proposals, which were released last week, now appear likely to converge with other recent developments - including the agreement to establish a national VET regulator and Parliament's recent approval of ESOS amendments - to change the landscape of international education.
