The key university infrastructure fund might have $6 billion on the balance sheets, but less than half is still in the kitty.
Despite warnings that the looming infrastructure and maintenance needs of each university could reach $1 billion, the federal government's key infrastructure fund for the entire higher education sector - the Education Investment Fund (EIF) - has less than $3 billion of uncommitted funds. The EIF balance at the end of December was almost $6 billion, according to the latest quarterly report from the Future Fund.
