The role:

As part of our commitment to becoming a leading online educator providing industry relevant experience, we are undertaking massive investment in our online courses, their delivery and infrastructure foundations in all of our faculties.  To support our growth this new role will provide leadership to the Health and Wellness Faculty which incorporates four iconic brands; ACNT, ANCB, SSNT and JNI.

Based in our new purpose built campus in Pyrmont, in this newly created role we are looking for an experienced online educator to manage, motivate and inspire our staff and students.  As part of the online leadership team, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the virtual campus and ensure that we set up the best possible facilities and processes for the future of online learning.

Your responsibilities will also include:

• Taking overall responsibility for the operational and financial performance of the online campus
• Operationalising the individual college strategies across the virtual campus, identifying new business opportunities
• Managing and leading the online team to ensure we are delivering the best possible service to students
• Building strong relationships between the academic staff and online teams for consistency and best practice in our courses and their delivery
• Ensuring efficiency of processes and technologies, as well as commercial and regulatory compliance.

Ideally, you will have:

• Experience in a significant management/ strategic leadership role within education or related field

POSITION PURPOSE

The Quality Manager will be responsible for managing activities to ensure the quality of the University’s processes and performance, including implementation of reviews of organisational areas and activities, assisting with the University’s planning and reporting cycle and the development and implementation of other processes as required to ensure that appropriate standards are maintained.

The incumbent will also develop and implement strategies to promote and support the integration of quality assurance mechanisms in organisational areas across the University.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Develop and champion the implementation of quality assurance systems and practices to support the achievement of the University’s strategic agenda and the maintenance of appropriate standards.
• Manage and report on the implementation of quality reviews by the University.
• Contribute to the effective management of the University’s planning, review and reporting cycle.
• Provide expert support to the Director, Quality Improvement through the development of high-quality policy documents, position papers, reports and submissions.

The appointee is responsible for:

• Course development, maintenance and delivery in the areas of Pharmacology and Therapeutic Development, ensuring relevance and curriculum quality.
• Teaching, research, scholarly publication and the generation of research funding in the broad area of Molecular Medicine.

We are seeking an experienced administrator for our Student Centre.  In this new role you will respond to queries from, and provide assistance to, students and staff, enter and retrieve data, provide administrative support, and coordinate student recruitment activities.  To be successful must be client focused, have strong computer skills, effective interpersonal skills, the ability and willingness to represent AFTRS, and be an effective project coordinator.   Experience in a tertiary education organisation is an advantage.

We are seeking an experienced Information Management System Administrator with an ability to develop and produce quality compliance and management reports for this new role.  Reporting to the Director of Education you will remain aware of changing compliance and best practice trends in higher education and make and implement recommendations to align the policies, procedures and the SMS with new requirements.  To be successful in this role you must be have high level analytical, research and problem solving skills, have experience in project management, and be an effective communicator.  Relevant qualifications and experience working in the tertiary education sector are an advantage.

We are seeking an experienced manager to assume responsibility for the operations of our Student Centre.  In this role you will oversee the support of students in administrative and welfare matters from initial enquiry to graduation as well as providing high level support to the Director of Education in the form of research, analysis and preparation of papers, policies and procedures.

To be successful in this role you must be innovative and client focused.  You must have an understanding of quality assurance processes and continual improvement as well as strong communication and relationship management skills.  Knowledge of the tertiary education compliance environment and experience in student support roles are an advantage.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Provision of technical, administrative and research support to practical teaching and research programs in the School, ensuring appropriate stocks of consumables are maintained, chemical and MSDS databases are maintained and equipment is kept in good working order.
• Calibration and maintenance of a wide range of laboratory equipment, and assistance with development of new practicals in liaison with Unit Chairs.
• Promotion and application of OH&S standards across School work environments including, research and teaching laboratory equipment, OH&S inspections, generation of action sheets and follow-up. Provide students with advice on and practical demonstrations covering safety and technical aspects of equipment usage.
• Document and update laboratory procedures, schedules and method manuals in line with the Total Quality Management framework.

The roles

The purpose of the Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor’s Innovation Fellowship (MQVCIF) Scheme is to attract outstanding researchers to the University who will focus on developing effective research collaborations with Australian/international organisations from industry, commerce, government and community groups, which will ultimately attract substantial external research funding through ARC Linkage Projects (or similar), or individual research contracts. The research may be undertaken in any discipline area of the University however it must be aligned to designated areas of research strength.

Up to three full-time MQVCIFs will be appointed at academic Level B (Lecturer) or Level C (Senior Lecturer) according to qualifications and experience. MQVCIFs will be awarded on a competitive basis and will commence from 1 February 2014.

Eligibility: Hold a PhD or demonstrable equivalent at the time of application and be able to provide concrete evidence of experience in developing and sustaining effective research collaboration with industry or relevant government/community organisations. Please refer to the MQVCIF Funding Rules for full eligibility criteria.

Appointment Type: Full-time, fixed-term for 2 years in the first instance. There will be provision for renewal for up to 5 further years, subject to satisfactory performance against agreed objectives.

Package:

Lecturer (Level B): Base salary from $88,741 to $104,996 per annum, plus annual leave loading and 17% employer superannuation.

Senior Lecturer (Level C): Base salary from $108,354 to $124,607 per annum, plus annual leave loading and 17% employer superannuation.

Candidates may also apply for up to $40,000 (maximum of $20,000 each year) to assist with research costs associated with the proposed Fellowship project in the first two years.

The position oversees and coordinates the Universities strategic and business planning processes and communications; represents the University at a number of committees and forums; regularly undertakes strategic analyses and authors strategy papers and business reports for submission to executive staff and committees of University. The analyst manages communication strategies, leads efficiency and system improvements, verifies the accuracy of benchmarking data and proactively seeks to improve Deakin’s position in benchmarking activities.

• Conduct research; source, extract, analyse and transform data from complex structures; provide meaningful reports, advice and recommendations to Deakin’s executive, Committees, FIOAs and external clients.
• Bring a multi perspective understanding of University functions and devise new ways of adapting to internal and external demands to ensure the development, carriage, marketing and implementation of new ways of reporting.
• Initiate, conceptualise and implement stakeholder communication strategies and manage client expectation.
• Proactively conduct environment scans to identify University benchmark instruments; verify their accuracy; analyse factors that drive performance and recommend strategies for improving Deakin’s position.
