  1. This highlights the need for more proactive adaptation. Although mitigation may help prevent dragging us more towards disastrous climate change, taking action to mitigate consequences of changes already occurring is a must. The other important message here is that in studying climate impacts important insights come from analyses using the variability in data sets not just the mean.

    The key public policy issue is whether approaches to adapt to climate change are any different to general risk management?
