  2. It seems crazy that we are sacking academics across the entire university system while Australia continues to rake in the money from the mining industry. And this at a time when the participation in tertiary education is supposed to be significantly increased, and while regional neighbors like China, Taiwan and Singapore are pouring huge sums into education, research and development. Is Canberra completely blind to all of this?
