Victorian TAFE workers protest cuts

TAFE staff across Victoria are staging a rolling series of protests against the Victorian government’s plan to slash nearly $300 million from public providers.
The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) has called on Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu to reverse the cuts, saying the entire TAFE sector, from students to staff and management, are united in their opposition. Three weeks of rolling rallies across the state began in Mildura last Wednesday. Victoria NTEU division secretary Dr Colin Long said that attendance had been excellent so far, with 1000 people taking part at the dual-sector University of Ballarat, which will be hit hard by cuts.
