Inaugural chair in sustainable mining practices at UNSW

Associate Professor David Laurence has accepted the position of the inaugural Mitsubishi chair in sustainable mining practices at the University of New South Wales School of Mining Engineering. As chair, Laurence also becomes the founding director of the Australian Centre for Sustainable Mining Practices (ACSMP). The chair and centre will work towards providing solutions for the balanced use of minerals in society particularly in developing nations, in the alleviation of poverty and their continuing use in developed nations. Laurence’s appointment was announced by UNSW and Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japanese investment and trading house Mitsubishi Corporation.
